Where to Begin
I live most of the time at Barkley Lake, Kentucky looking out over the water. It is a beautiful place and so quiet and peaceful, most of the time. Well, I should say that is until the guys at Fort Campbell get a wild hair and decide they want to get out and fly those helicopters of theres. Nothing like trying to sleep after a long night of life saving, and all of a sudden there is a loud roar, and your condo starts shaking because there is a black hawk or an Apache buzzing you. Or you decide you want to spend a nice relaxing afternoon on the boat working on your tan, so you go out and find a nice bay to drop anchor and kick back, when all of a sudden here they come again and buzz the lake and get the water white capping. I tell you what, I think those boys get a good laugh out of it. But hey they got to have some fun sometime. I know when I am in my box at night going code 3, there is nothing more fun than racing to the next emergency to see who will get their tricks done first you or your partner to bring the patient back. Although it doesn't really matter as long as the patient comes back.
Our rule is one has the airway, and the other works the circulation. That way we don't fall on each other or get in each others way, and the patient is taken care of. I have the best partner in the world. My best friend, confidant, and companion. I would trust this guy with my life any day of the week and would definitely want him working on me if I ever needed anything. He works full-time with me, flies part-time with life flight and also works part-time with another city. So he is the best. Love us Medics.
